Occupational and Environmental Toxicology for the OSH Professional

DESCRIPTION

Health and safety professionals are frequently called upon to evaluate workers with chemical and physical exposures in their workplace or home. This two-day course will present an overview of occupational and environmental toxicology for health and safety professionals, with a focus on clinical and medical toxicology. Commonly encountered types of workplace and environmental exposures and disorders will be presented. Fundamental principles and risk communication will be emphasized.

OBJECTIVES

Participants completing this course will:
  • Review principles of occupational and environmental toxicology
  • Characterize the effects of chemical and biological exposure on liver, lungs, nervous system, skin and reproductive system
  • Discuss biological monitoring in the workplace
  • Discuss the relationship between occupational and environmental toxins and cancer
  • Describe the role of risk assessment in setting standards for toxic exposure

AUDIENCE

Occupational physicians, occupational health nurses, industrial hygienists, safety professionals, risk managers, workers’ comp claims adjusters, primary care physicians, and others involved in the evaluation, management and/or prevention of occupational or environmental exposures, diseases, injuries, or claims.
