COURSE TITLE
Physical Assessment for Occupational Health Nurses
This class has been CANCELED!
June 16-19, 2008 (Monday-Thursday)
UC San Francisco School of Nursing Classrooms and Skills Laboratory
Co-sponsor:
Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Program, UCSF
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide occupational health nurses with beginning skills needed to conduct screening physical examinations. Physical assessment is used to establish baseline information about a worker’s health status, to determine worker/job fit, to detect health problems or risk factors that may later be affected by the job, and to make decisions regarding reasonable accommodation to a worker’s special health needs in the occupational setting. Nurses attending this course will refine their ability to distinguish normal from abnormal findings, and gain increased confidence in their ability to refer workers for appropriate further evaluation and treatment.
The course is a full 4 days in length. Educational methods will include lectures, self-study materials, demonstrations, and at least three hours of hands-on practice of each day’s assessment techniques in the UCSF School of Nursing Skills Laboratory.
