COURSE TITLE

Environmental Health & Safety Challenges of the Nanotechnology Revolution

August 6, 2008 (Wednesday)

Note special location: The Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Co-sponsors:

Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), UC Berkeley
Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

This course is intended to introduce EH&S personnel, scientists, and managers to the field of nanotechnology and review the potential health, safety, and environmental concerns associated with this emerging field. The morning presentations will review the concepts and issues associated with engineered nanoparticles and will include a comprehensive tour of the Molecular Foundry, a world-class nanotechnology research center at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The afternoon will be directed at what is known about the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of exposure to engineered nanoparticles in the workplace.
