COURSE DESCRIPTION
Infectious diseases are increasingly affecting the workplace. Occupational health
professionals need to be familiar with the specific infectious agents, the clinical illnesses
they cause, and which workers are likely to be affected. This two-day course will offer
state-of-the-art information on recent developments in infectious disease, as well as
respiratory protection against airborne infectious agents, how workers should prepare for
bioterrorism, and how international travelers can protect themselves.

At the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify infectious diseases that have an impact on occupational health
- Understand the challenges of interpreting QuantiFERON® testing for tuberculosis
- Discuss issues and challenges of influenza in healthcare settings
- Describe the latest information on MDR/XDR tuberculosis
- Understand trends and occupational risks for coccidioidomycosis
- Identify zoonotic diseases of importance to worker health
- Describe the occupational health risks of bovine tuberculosis
- Report on the latest developments in avian flu and worker health
- Identify potential agents of bioterrorism and discuss the implementation of worker safety plans
- Discuss Cal/OSHA recommended respiratory protection against airborne infectious agents
- Report on current infectious disease risks to workers who travel internationally
