COURSE TITLE
Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene
August 4-8, 2008 (Monday-Friday)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This four-and-a-half day course is designed as
an introduction to basic concepts of industrial hygiene. It is aimed
at the individual who has just begun to assume responsibility in the
area of industrial hygiene, whether direct working responsibility or
managing responsibility. Participants will gain a familiarity with
the basic terms and essential concepts of the field and an understanding
of the key principles of the professional practice of industrial hygiene:
recognition, evaluation and control of occupational health hazards.
The following topics will be covered: Epidemiology,
TLVs & PELs, Toxicology, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, the Industrial
Hygiene Survey, Chemical Hazard Sampling, Physical Hazards, Biohazards,
Employee Training Programs, Injury and Illness Prevention Programs,
Engineering and Ventilation Controls, Respiratory Protection and PPE,
Noise Measurement and Control, Hearing Conservation Programs, Biological
Monitoring/Medical Surveillance, and Problem Recognition/Engineering
Controls Case Study.
Each participant will receive a CD-ROM of the
1000-page textbook Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene, 5th Edition,
Plog, B.A. (ed.), 2002.
