COURSE TITLE
Biotech and Laboratory Ergonomics
2009 Summer Institute
July 30-31, 2009, Oakland, CA
DESCRIPTION
In the past 25 years, bioscience work in clinical, research, and
pharmaceutical facilities has undergone a revolution in process and
equipment. Nevertheless, laboratory and biotech work often involves
repetitive activities and awkward postures in manipulating containers,
using pipettes and other small tools, and operating semi-automated
instruments. In this course, the analysis and development of
ergonomics interventions in various biotech settings will be
illustrated and discussed. Case studies in laboratory design,
equipment, and procedures will be presented by speakers who have been
closely involved in ergonomics projects in university, public, and
private facilities.
