COURSE TITLE
Practices and Procedures in Asbestos Control
COURSE DESCRIPTION
(AHERA Contractor/Supervisor Course)
The EPA and OSHA require you to take this course if you ever supervise
the removal of an asbestos product and if that process fills more than
one glovebag or waste container. Yet this course is not just for contractors.
Most students now represent environmental companies, building owners,
schools, the military, and regulatory agencies. They want to know how
to safely remove asbestos products. They learn how to do the work themselves
or successfully interact with experienced industrial hygienists, consultants,
and abatement contractors.
You review in detail the EPA, OSHA, and California regulations applying
to asbestos work. Certified industrial hygienists (CIHs) explain respiratory
protection and air sampling issues. Asbestos abatement contractors
cover the most up-to-date removal methods and equipment. Cal/OSHA certified
consultants review project design and safety issues.
More than a day and a half of elaborate respiratory and work practice
workshops let you practice the content in realistic settings. (You
don't disturb actual asbestos!) You set up containments, practice using
and evaluating negative air pressure differentials, use 5 to 10 different
types of HEPA vacuums, take air samples, and perform a glovebag removal.
This course should be taken prior to taking Designing Asbestos Abatement
Projects. This course meets the requirements for AHERA accreditation
as a Contractor/Supervisor and is one of the required courses for Cal/OSHA
consultant and site surveillance technician certification.
Required Textbook
Besides the standard EPA course materials used by most training providers,
we'll give you several hundred pages of course material developed and copyrighted
by UC Berkeley. Many other training providers try to use the course materials
we wrote for this course, because they know our materials are the best.
No other school even comes close to matching the number and quality
of our instructors. The best materials and the best instructors make
for the best value in asbestos training.
