COURSE TITLE
Improving the Effectiveness of Your Health & Safety Program
August 6, 2008 (Wednesday)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Every professional or supervisor seeks to improve their impact in supporting their organization. This can be through greater professional competence, improved management or business skills, or better allocation of available resources among competing demands. This one-day course focuses on ideas and tools to help the seasoned H&S practitioner or supervisor examine their current programs and devise ways to improve effectiveness. Topics include case studies and leading edge concepts:
-
Setting Priorities in Program Improvement
-
Requirements of Key OSHA Health Regulations
-
Lessons Learned: Successful Deployment of a Risk-based Process to Prevent Ergonomic Injuries
This session will cover the basic elements of a risk based safety and health program, along with critical success factors, and how to evaluate the readiness of your organization to successfully adopt one. Although this topic illustrates RSI prevention, the concepts apply to other injury and illness preventive programs as well.
Public and government expectations regarding EH&S performance have evolved. At one time meeting federal and state regulations was considered success – now usually they are merely the “minimum,” and an organization is expected to use management systems and other advanced tools to continually improve EH&S performance. This session will focus on understanding this evolution, how an organization can decide what EH&S practices to meet, and then how to audit and perform due diligence to verify attainment.
